Coming from the same country as the author of these books, I'm so happy to hear people outside of Finland discover the books as well!

I grew up with the japanese TV show and loved it, but now in my twenties I'm enjoying the original books so much - the simple poethic prose never fails to inspire me. My favourites are Moominsummer Madness (the original title translates to "Dangerous Midsummer", which I find more suitable) and the much darker Moominvalley in November (Originally "Late in November").

I just had to comment and say how wonderful I think it is to hear that you were reading these books to your daughter!

This is a very funny post. I have heard about this kind of things. We recently trolled a friend of ours in a way that he said he will shoots us then drop our bodies in acid. His wife recently gave birth and we gave them a printer as a gift and seeing how we are engineers we modified that printer a bit. When he was hinting print in the OS the printer would start to make weird sounds like "Mommyyyyyy!" "Dadddddyyyyyyy!!". Sucks being him, right?

I think that whatever one enjoys, one enjoys because it gives you a good feeling, it calms you, doesn't upset you and it turns your mind off, and excludes the outside world. To explain why exactly you enjoy certain things is impossible, it's just an automatic reaction you get from certain things, and everyone's emotions are triggered by different things. For example I enjoy music and food, and I think I can explain what makes me enjoy my favorite food, beluga caviar, but I don't know why I enjoy those things. I love the way they burst in my mouth, and I like the taste of it, but why I do, I don't know, because there are people I know who hate it for the exact same reasons. I guess it has something to do with previous experiences and feelings we assigned to those memories. After a while the memory fades, but the feelings and connections stay imprinted in our brain. But I wouldn't bet on this explanation.
