Firefox speed up

Some tips for speeding up Firefox by allowing it to make many more HTTP requests in parallel, open tabs quicker, and paint the page quicker (from Linux Format and Fireblog).

  • Type about:config into the Firefox address bar to get the configuration screen.
  • Use the filter "network.http" to get the HTTP configuration options.
  • Set network.http.pipelining and network.http.proxy.pipelining to true.
  • Set network.http.pipeling.maxrequests to some value; 20 to 30 is recommended, but you can go as high as 100 if you've got a fast connection.
  • Right-click in the list, and select New > Integer. Call the new setting nglayout.initialpaint.delay and give it a value of 0. This tells Firefox to paint pages without a delay (the default is a short delay before the page displays).
  • You can also enhance the tab opening speed by creating a new preference called browser.tabs.showSingleWindowModePrefs. Set its value to true.
